What is considered a 'decent' SAT score?

Postby Rilek » Mon Dec 19, 2005 8:46 am

I just got my SAT scores and was wondering if anyone had any idea what colleges consider, 'decent' SAT scores. I've looked at some college's admissions requierments and it seems a lot require the applicant to be within the top 50% of their graduating class, have a good grade point average and have, 'decent' SAT/ACT scores. My score on my most recent SAT was a 1660. I know I'm within the top 50% of my class, probably the top 20%, and my grade point average is solid. Would 1660 be a good enough score in most cases?

It depends on what school you are trying to get into. A few years ago, a lot of universities' schools (especially the top-ranking state universities) started going towards a "top XX %ile of your class" criteria on order to obtain acceptance. Top 20% isn't bad tho ;)

I'd be interested to hear what school you're looking at and also what some other peoples' experiences are from that school as well...

I'm looking at Eastern CT State University. My plan is to go to ECSU for 2 years and then take the credits I get there and go into the ITT Tech Online program for the Internet Systems Security. In order to get into ITT Tech's online program you need some college credits.

I was a terrible student in high school. I did not take it serious enough, I never took my SATs or any other testing. I wanted to get into Penn State University, is there any possibility of this?

From what I understand you could still take the ACT/SAT's if you wanted to. You'll have to check schedules and find a place that does the testing though. Also - if you have some "real world" experience now you might be able to find some people to write a letter of recommendation for you.

:? I just found this site, and am wondering if someone can help me. I am probably a lot older than all of you. I did not perform well in high school. Guest says he was a terrible student, and I guess I was also. I had ability, I just wasn't very mature then. I didn't take my SAT either. After getting married and having two kids, I went to a community college and got an A/A, but was not financially able to transfer to local university to go further. That was 15 years ago. Now I'm looking to go back. Does no SAT score have anything to do with me at this point as to acceptance for my bachelor's degree? I saw the part about true life experience also, and I'm wondering just how much that matters as well. My major is psyche. Would my true life experience (which I do have) really carry any weight for acceptance? Thanks.

You are still able to go to college. Look in your community for highschools that are giving SAT and ACT tests. Chances are they are filled up right now becuase the test is this weekend but if you wait till about Jan. 15 and later it should not be a problem. What were your grades in junior college and what have you done job wise since?
